Samdech Techo Hun Sen Urges Inter-Ministry Task Force to Stop Online Insults Against Women
PHNOM PENH, August 14, 2026 – Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate of the Kingdom of Cambodia, has called for the creation of an urgent inter-ministerial mechanism to stop the growing trend of online insults and personal attacks, which he said undermine the dignity and morality of Cambodian women.
Speaking at a meeting with delegates of the Cambodian National Council for Women at the Senate's Samakkhi Vimean on August 14, Samdech Techo Hun Sen directed relevant ministries to take immediate action against individuals who hurl abuse on social media to boost their product sales.
"From now on, I want you to monitor this closely. There should be a team to track all these cases—people insulting each other on Facebook, some doing online business and attacking others. Stop these acts! Discuss this with the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, the Ministry of Information, and the Ministry of Culture. Establish a mechanism to monitor this, to protect dignity, and to promote the morality of women and the values of Cambodian women," he said.
The Senate President's directive comes amid growing concerns over the rise of cyberbullying and online harassment in Cambodia, particularly targeting women entrepreneurs and content creators. The proposed mechanism would involve multiple government ministries working together to identify and take action against offenders.
