Sbai Khmer Chosen as Gift for Delegates of 20th Francophonie Summit

Phnom Penh, October 26, 2026: International delegations attending the 20th Francophonie Summit in Cambodia later this year will receive Sbai Khmer as a commemorative gift, H.E. Dr. Pich Chanmony, First Lady of Cambodia, has said.
The First Lady noted that preparations include studying the origins of Sbai Khmer and the embroidery methods used to create it, part of efforts to champion Cambodia's traditional handicraft sector.
Rooted in the Kingdom's ancient past, Sbai Khmer is a cultural heirloom rather than a simple ornament. Its weaving has been refined over successive generations, with today's artisans maintaining the textile's delicate quality and unmistakable Khmer identity.

Crafted from fine silk or golden threads, Sbai Khmer features patterns such as Phka Chan and Chak Chan that mirror the stone carvings of ancient temples. The motifs reflect the ingenuity of Khmer artistry and symbolize blessings, prosperity, prestige and well-being.
Presenting Sbai Khmer to foreign delegates serves a dual purpose: offering a gift rich in meaning while introducing Cambodian art, craft and cultural identity to an international audience.
