Siem Reap and Preah Vihear Sign Agreement to Adjust Administrative Boundaries

PHNOM PENH, September 14, 2026 – Siem Reap and Preah Vihear provincial administrations signed a proposal to adjust their shared administrative boundaries during a ceremony at the Siem Reap Provincial Hall on Monday afternoon.

The agreement was signed by H.E. Prak Sophoan, Governor of Siem Reap Province, and H.E. Kim Rithy, Governor of Preah Vihear Province. The adjustment aims to facilitate population management and improve the delivery of public services to residents in the affected areas.

The proposal was prepared in accordance with legal principles and following on-site studies and verification by both provincial administrations. Officials from the two provinces met, discussed the matter, and reached consensus before formalizing the request.

The initiative was carried out in response to a notification from the Ministry of Interior regarding the determination of administrative boundaries at the capital-provincial, municipal-district, and commune-sangkat levels where delineation remained unclear. The measure is intended to ensure that administrative management in border areas is clear, effective, and aligned with actual conditions on the ground.
