Six Points: PM Hun Manet Sets Agenda for ASEAN Veterans' Cooperation

PHNOM PENH — Oct. 5, 2026: Prime Minister Hun Manet has laid out six recommendations for the Veterans Confederation of ASEAN Countries, setting a practical agenda for the group's future work.
Addressing the 25th VECONAC General Assembly at the Peace Palace on Monday, the Prime Minister urged members to:
1. Continue jointly protecting and promoting the value of peace as the foundation for regional development and prosperity.
2. Strengthen solidarity, friendship and cooperation among ASEAN veterans' associations.
3. Place veterans' quality of life and well-being at the core of cooperation.
4. Elevate veterans as peace educators and as a bridge linking past, present and future, describing their experience as a valuable historical lesson.
5. Make VECONAC more active, resilient and responsive to the region's changing context.
6. Preserve and promote the "VECONAC family spirit" as a unifying force in the ASEAN community.

The Prime Minister said the recommendations were offered for the assembly's consideration and joint implementation — a framework intended to carry the confederation's work into a more uncertain regional environment, with veterans' welfare and their testimony as peace-builders at its centre.
