South Korean Traveler Slams 'Malicious' YouTube Video, Defends Cambodia's Safety

PHNOM PENH, July 6, 2026 – A South Korean traveler has sharply criticized a YouTube video that he says unfairly portrays Cambodia as dangerous, defending the Kingdom's safety and questioning the motives behind what he called a "false incitement" aimed at boosting views.
In a social media post, Kwon Jae-min expressed disbelief at the content of the video, stating that he has visited Cambodia many times and knows the country well. He described Cambodia as a nation rich in cultural heritage, including Angkor Wat, and emphasized that the local people are "innocent and kind." He noted that travelers can visit safely by following basic safety guidelines and respecting local laws.
Mr. Kwon accused the YouTuber of deliberately spreading fear and distorting Cambodia's image, suggesting the creator was more interested in gaining views than presenting facts. He pointed out that Thailand—not Cambodia—has been repeatedly linked to serious crimes targeting tourists, including taxi and ferry thefts, call center fraud, and land scams around the royal palace.
He also highlighted that Cambodia's government has actively cracked down on international financial crimes and illegal call center operations, and that major tourist destinations like Phnom Penh and Siem Reap remain safe for visitors who exercise common sense.
Mr. Kwon further questioned whether Thailand itself is the source of the scams and crimes being blamed on Cambodia, citing its reputation as a money laundering hub for large-scale illegal call center operations. He urged the YouTuber to address Thailand's own crime issues before criticizing its neighbor.
Before blaming others, he concluded, solve the serious crime problems in your own country.
