U.S. Continues Support for Phnom Bakheng Temple Conservation with Over $4.4 Million in Funding
PHNOM PENH, August 31, 2026 – The United States has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting Cambodia's cultural heritage, with more than $4.4 million invested in the conservation of Phnom Bakheng Temple in Siem Reap since 2004.

ECA Assistant Secretary Cate Dillon recently visited the temple, one of the largest U.S. Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP) projects in the world, to observe firsthand the ongoing collaboration between the United States and Cambodia in safeguarding this iconic site.

Earlier this year, to mark America's 250th anniversary, the United States awarded a $250,000 AFCP Freedom 250 special edition grant, bringing total U.S. support for Phnom Bakheng to over $4.4 million.
For decades, American leadership and expertise have helped protect Cambodia's cultural treasures while equipping local experts with the tools needed to lead future conservation efforts.
