US Envoy Meets ASEAN Observers, Pledges Continued Support for Border Peace
PHNOM PENH, September 11, 2026 – U.S. Chargé d'Affaires Aleks Zittle has met with the Philippine-led ASEAN Observer Team (AOT) in Cambodia, reaffirming Washington's backing for ceasefire monitoring along the Cambodia-Thailand border.

In a statement, the U.S. Embassy in Phnom Penh said the United States played a key diplomatic role in brokering the Kuala Lumpur Peace Accords alongside its ASEAN partners and continues to support on-the-ground monitoring mechanisms that contribute to border stability and regional security.

The meeting provided an opportunity for the AOT to brief the U.S. envoy on its work observing the implementation of the ceasefire. The Embassy said the discussion reaffirmed U.S. support for both Cambodia and Thailand as they work to maintain peace and resolve their differences through peaceful means.
