U.S. Provides 700 Malaria Slides as Cambodia Tightens Airport Screening

PHNOM PENH — Oct. 1, 2026: The United States has supplied 700 malaria microscope slides to Cambodia and joined a workshop aimed at strengthening airport screening for travellers arriving from malaria-endemic countries.
The U.S. Embassy in Phnom Penh worked with the Ministry of Health, the National Center for Parasitology, Entomology and Malaria Control (CNM) and FHI 360 on the initiative, which is intended to help Cambodian laboratory staff identify malaria species and improve diagnostic accuracy.
With Cambodia reaching zero indigenous malaria transmission in 2025 and zero malaria deaths since 2018, the Embassy said border and airport surveillance is vital to keeping the disease from returning.
