Verify Your SIM, Protect Your Money: Cambodia Launches Anti-Scam Campaign

PHNOM PENH, June 17, 2026 – Cambodia has launched a nationwide campaign requiring citizens to verify their SIM cards against their bank accounts, a move officials say will stop scammers in their tracks and protect millions from digital fraud.
The campaign was jointly launched on June 17 by the National Bank of Cambodia and the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications. It allows users to check their SIM identity through the SIM Verifier Mini App on the DG SuperApp platform, linking mobile numbers directly with bank accounts.
"Verifying your phone number means securing your personal data, your OTP codes, and your money," said H.E. Dr. Chea Serey, Governor of the National Bank of Cambodia. "This is how we fight back against online fraud."

H.E. Dr. Chea Vandet, Minister of Post and Telecommunications, called on telecom operators, provincial authorities, journalists, and influencers to spread the word. He urged them to create simple, memorable content explaining how to verify and why it matters.
"Your mobile number is your digital identity. Verify it. Protect it," he said.
The campaign follows a December 2025 agreement between the two institutions to strengthen digital security and root out SIM cards with no verified users—tools often used by fraudsters.
