Women's Council Delegation Inspects Conditions of Incarcerated Women in Kratie Prison

PHNOM PENH, September 10, 2026 – Dr. Ing Kantha Phavi, President of the Cambodian National Council for Women (CNCW) and Minister of Women's Affairs, led an inter-ministerial delegation to Kratie provincial prison from September 9 to 11 to assess the conditions of incarcerated women.

The delegation included Lok Chumteav Chhay Chanrithy Solyda, CNCW member and Secretary of State at the Ministry of Information, and Lok Chumteav Bun Chhit Veasna, Permanent Member and Secretary General of the CNCW Secretariat.

The delegation was warmly received by Lieutenant General Duong Vuthy, Director of Kratie Provincial Prison, and H.E. Sok Phry Haneth, Deputy Governor, representing the provincial governor.

The visit aimed to monitor the implementation of laws, government policies, and recommendations under the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW). Discussions focused on improving conditions for women through strengthened essential services, including nutrition, healthcare, sanitation, education, and vocational training programmes, to support their reintegration into their communities.
